I'm giving blogging a try. I planned on waiting until I had something important to say, but instead I'm starting now. I thought I'd get some practice so that I'll be better prepared when something important to say finally comes to me. I'm going to keep this first post simple, a simple request.... Teach me how to blog. My blogger friends on Twitter and WAE Network, I'd love if you would take the time to offer me just one piece of advice. I am a fiction writer, so this kind of writing is new to me. Share some wisdom with me and I will be sure to take a look at your blog, and even Tweet links to your posts. I'm excited to hear from you!

Only blog when you have something to say. A lot of advice says you should blog daily or twice a week minimum. But why? Worry about the content not the frequency.

Candi:

Find something you can offer that is different from other blogs by writers. Have fun with it. As to frequency of blogging, as opposed to the first comment, I believe you have to blog regularly. This gives people a reason to follow your blog because they want to hear something new and fresh and they don't have the patience to wait weeks to hear from you again. They will just look elsewhere. I blog on average five times per week and look at that work as an integral part of platform building. Good luck.

I am not currently blogging, but have in the past and plan to begin again very soon. That said - I subscribe to about 35 blogs. Let's just call it research.

My thinking is that blogging needs to be:
1) keep it short - 200-400 words
2) original, or at least a fresh take on a topic - don't blog if you don't have something to say that is REAL and TRUE
3) I tend to ignore those blogs who feel they must touch me with their words daily. I prefer weekly. Others will have a different take on this.

REAL and TRUE- I love that! I will keep that in mind whenever I write. And weekly sounds more realistic for me anyway (so does short). Thank you, Jan, for taking the time to comment!

Like someone said before 'Have fun' and remember it is your blog. So the decision is yours what to publish and when. if you live an action packed life, you could post daily. LOL

Candi, love your name :).... and wish I could surf!
I also started blogging this year, and was petrified, because I am no tech junkie!
So I too thank all of the above for their tips, and would like to add....

Blogging is fun, and alot easier than finding an agent or publisher :)

Hi Candi, I blog in Afrikaans (one of 11 official languages of our country) but check it out, please
http//: www.goeienuusloli.wordpress.com and my English one http//:www.pantiespenniesprideprince.wordpress.com
Please leave a comment, no one has yet? believe me, I am following your readers advice here as well, to learn how I may improve.
Another great tip I got this past week from an internet advertiser was: to take yourself seriously. Develop a 'brand' and use it all over the internet eg. on your website, your twitter account, your facebook etc. Set goals, visions, dreams and progressively take steps towards achieving your online presence. (Great advice....now to put it to practice!!!)

Hi Loli!
My sentiments exactly! I too am petrified as I have yet to blog, but I am exploring what others write so I don't come across so ingenue! I have a blogging address that someone else set up for me but I have no idea how to navigate it. Can you help me out? Can you email me @ ceriseam@bellsouth.net? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Congratulations and welcome to the blogosphere! You've already gotten some great tips above. One complaint I hear from new bloggers is "Why aren't people visiting me or leaving me comments?" My advice is the old adage, "To have a friend, one must be a friend." If you follow other blogs and leave them comments, they, most likely, will return the favor and help spread the word about your lovely blog. Happy Blogging, Candi! :D

Such good advice, Chele. I am often shy to leave comments when I read blogs, but I will be sure to say more now that I understand how great it is to get these replies.
